‘Confidently Wrong about Healthcare in Mexico’: A new podcast episode by Mexico News Daily

What do you do for Healthcare in Mexico? It’s one of the most common questions those of us who live in Mexico get from our friends and family back home. After asking us if we feel safe in Mexico, and then asking if we like Mexico (usually in that order), we then get the questions about healthcare. Do you have a doctor here? Do you feel comfortable getting care here? Do you have medical insurance? How much do things cost? It always surprises and humors me how much interest there is in the topic, as well as how personal the questions can quickly get.

It is with that in mind that the team at MND decided to conduct an actual survey of foreigners living in Mexico about their experiences with healthcare here. Of course, one relatively short survey can’t possibly cover every facet on such a complicated topic, but we do get into what receiving healthcare is really like for people here. We address the topics of cost, accessibility and quality, and received answers from people nationwide. We gained feedback from people who have had something as simple as a dental teeth cleaning to people who have had heart surgery.

The survey is meant to provide you with real feedback from foreigners who have actually gotten care in Mexico. We will conduct future surveys with additional questions in the future. In today’s ” Confidently Wrong” podcast episode, George and I discuss the results of the survey, as well as share real life experiences we have had with healthcare in Mexico. Among the 10 countries that consume the most gasoline in the world, Mexico is the one that currently pays the highest price per liter, mainly due to its fuel tax burden, according to an analysis by specialist Ramsés Pech . In Mexico, the average price of regular gasoline is 23.37 pesos (US $1.30) per liter, meaning that Mexicans pay an average of 10.28 pesos (US $0.57) in taxes per liter — the highest tax burden among the world’s 10 largest fuel consumers. Congress rushes to reshuffle 40 billion pesos of FY 2025 budget

The clock is ticking on Mexico’s 2025 budget as Mexico’s Chamber of Deputies scrambles to rework the spending portion of the 9.3 trillion-peso (US $461.08 billion) budget submitted by President Claudia Sheinbaum before a final vote is expected on Thursday. By Tuesday afternoon, deputies with Morena — the ruling party in the Chamber — had reportedly hammered out a proposal to reassign 40 billion pesos (US $1.98 billion) of the budget, with the National Electoral Institute and the judiciary suffering the biggest reductions. Ricardo Monreal, head of the Morena party’s caucus in the Chamber of Deputies, center, originally told reporters Monday that the Chamber would debate 30 billion pesos (US $1.5 billion) in reallocations of Claudia Sheinbaum’s 2025 budget. Heavy summer rains in central Mexico are revitalizing Lake Texcoco, submerging the remnants of the partially built Mexico City airport project and marking a symbolic turn in a decades-long debate over land use and ecological restoration.
